As printed on the site
From the Delaware Memorial Bridge
From the south, the directions page said to take I-95 north to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, then follow a chain of New Jersey routes until they meet the Garden State Parkway south.
After that meeting, the page says to use the directions for points north. The southern paragraph does not have its own bridge into Cape May.
The roads, in the order printed
The page’s order is a sequence, not a map. I-95 north reaches the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Once across, the road is Route 49. Route 49 is taken to Route 55 south. Route 55 ends at Route 47. Route 47 south becomes Route 347 for a short distance, then becomes Route 47 again. Route 47 is followed to the Garden State Parkway south. From there the northern directions apply: the Parkway ends at Cape May, the road becomes Route 109 south just before the Cape May bridge, and across that bridge the street is Lafayette Street.
The 2006 page wrote “than” where the sequence means “then.” This site prints then, and does not keep the typo as if it were a road name. No other word in the sequence is “corrected” into a different route.
The directions page carries the same chain. The Parkway article starts where this one stops handing the driver over. A person driving up from south of the Delaware, bound for a historic Cape May house, is the reader. The page does not name a starting city in Delaware, Maryland, or anywhere else.
| Step | What the page said |
|---|---|
| 1 | I-95 north to the Delaware Memorial Bridge |
| 2 | Across the bridge, the road is Route 49 |
| 3 | Route 49 to Route 55 south |
| 4 | Route 55 ends at Route 47 |
| 5 | Route 47 south becomes Route 347 briefly, then Route 47 again |
| 6 | Route 47 to the Garden State Parkway south, then the northern directions |
Route 347 is a short rename
The only complication inside the chain is Route 347. The page says Route 47 south becomes Route 347 for a short distance and then is Route 47 again. It does not say how long the short distance is. It does not say to turn off. A driver who treats 347 as a different destination has left the sentence. The sentence says the road changes its number and then changes back.
Route 55’s role is also an ending, not a choice of exits. It ends at Route 47. The page does not list exits along 55. Leaving 55 early is not in the text. The same is true of Route 49 between the bridge and Route 55: the page says to take it there, and names nothing in between.
None of these numbers is a lodging. They do not pass the before-1910 test, because that test was about houses the members owned, not about highways. The home page says the roads are the ones the site named, not a live traffic report, and that they include no driving times. This article does not add the times.
Where the chain joins the Parkway
The last southern instruction is to follow Route 47 to the Garden State Parkway south and then use the directions for points north. The page does not name the interchange. It does not say “exit” at all in this paragraph. The join is the meeting of Route 47 and the Parkway, described only as “to the Garden State Parkway south.”
From that moment the driver is on the other text: Parkway south until it ends, Route 109, Cape May bridge, Lafayette Street. Publishing a second finale here would invent a southern entrance the page did not print. Cape May, on this page, is approached from the south by first getting onto the same Parkway the northern driver is already using.
Lafayette Street remains the end of the drive the site was willing to describe. It is still not an office address. The about page never printed a street for Historic Accommodations of Cape May. The hotline page refused locations of the houses. Arriving in town and knowing which porch to use are separate problems, and only the first is a driving problem.
What a southern driver still has to ask
The roads do not know about vacancies. A night inside the next ten days was a question for (609) 884-0080, inside the hours the hotline page printed, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. The member on that line gave names and telephone numbers. The member did not give rates, locations, or amenities, and did not give a preferred route from the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
A night further out than ten days was sent to an availability search this archive does not contain. The southern roads do not fill that gap. They are printed the same way whether the stay is tomorrow or next month. The hotline page is the limit on what the call was for. The directions page does not mention the call.
The 2002 about page’s membership, houses built before 1910, is also unchanged by which bridge a driver crossed. I-95 and the Delaware Memorial Bridge are how the site said to come up from the south. They are not part of the membership rule, and they are not a claim that the bridge or the Parkway existed in 1910. The page is about the drive, dated by when the site printed it.
The typo, and what was not repaired
Changing “than” to “then” is a repair of a conjunction. It does not add a road, a town, or a landmark. The page’s proper names stay as printed: I-95, Delaware Memorial Bridge, Route 49, Route 55, Route 47, Route 347, Garden State Parkway, and, by the cross-reference, Route 109, the Cape May bridge, and Lafayette Street.
No ferry is in the directions. A driver who would rather cross the Delaware somewhere else will not find that option on the page. No Garden State Parkway exit list is in the directions. A driver who wants services, tolls, or a winter weather note will not find those either. Adding them from a current road atlas would turn this page into a different document.
The association’s own account of who it was sits on the home page, founded in 1980, over 70 members in that about-page count, five kinds of lodging, all in properties built in Cape May before 1910. The southern route is how the site told some of those visitors to arrive. It is not a list of the houses at the end of the drive.
Questions
Does the southern route end at a different bridge?
No. It joins the Garden State Parkway south and then uses the northern directions, which cross the Cape May bridge onto Lafayette Street.
How long is the stretch on Route 347?
The page says a short distance and does not give a length. It says the road becomes Route 47 again.
Which word was corrected?
The 2006 page wrote “than” in the sequence. This site reads that conjunction as “then.” The route numbers were not changed.
